XLibre packages move from [obcommunity] to [obextra]
Dear Obarun Community,
The xlibre-server, xlibre-input and xlibre-video packages have been moved from
the [obcommunity] repository to the official [obextra] repository. This marks an
important step in Obarun's transition away from Xorg.
A long road through [obcommunity]
XLibre has lived in [obcommunity] for a long time and has been tested in real
conditions for many months. A heartfelt thank you to wat-now for the work
carried out to bring and maintain these packages in [obcommunity] — without that
groundwork, this promotion would not have been possible.
After this extended testing period, the packages are now mature enough to enter the official Obarun repositories.
What this means
xlibre-server, xlibre-input and xlibre-video are now part of [obextra]. The
goal is clear: XLibre is intended to fully replace Xorg on Obarun.
Users are therefore encouraged to switch from xorg to xlibre. From now on, Xorg
should be considered deprecated on Obarun. Existing Xorg installations will keep
working, but new deployments and migrations should target XLibre.
What is coming next
The next Obarun ISOs (not yet ready) will ship with XLibre instead of Xorg as the default display server stack. The shift in the repositories is the first visible step of that transition; the ISO rebuilds will follow.
Thank you again to wat-now and to everyone who tested XLibre on Obarun during
its time in [obcommunity]. Your feedback is what made this promotion possible.
Thank you for your continued support of Obarun.
